Rampage and Pillage: Myanmar Military Column Leaves Trial of Destruction in Chin State

By Van Bawi Lian | The Myanmar military supply column, which returned from Cindwe Town of Kanpetlet Township in Chin State, left a trail of destruction on its way back to Magwe Region, according to the report issued by the Khonu Battalion of Chinland Defense Force (Kanpetlet) yesterday.

The supply column entered Cindwe town on July 27 and retraced its route to Masatui village in Kanpetlet Township on July 31. In Masatui, the military column utilized a house to incinerate the dead bodies of their fellow soldiers, said the report.

On August 2, the supply column proceeded to Lawngsay Township of Magwe Region, passing through several villages in Kanpetlet Township along the way.

The Khonu Battalion’s report highlighted that the villages of Masatui, Mawchawng, Hlaingdoh (A), Hlaingdoh (B), and Htankone all fell victim to the marauding spree of the Myanmar military column. The targets of their rampage included places of worship, schools, houses, and vital infrastructure such as electric posts and solar panels, resulting in widespread pillage.

The report further mentioned that the military personnel killed and consumed several domestic animals and made off with household items such as solar batteries, cabinets, chairs and suitcases.

The Khonu Battalion said they are investigating the extent of loss and destruction caused by the Myanmar military column’s looting spree.
